Large Oak Platter

180.00

This platter, at about 19" in diameter, is made from "quarter sawn" Red Oak.  "Quarter sawn" refers the way that the log was cut into boards, so that the face of the board tends to be close to perpendicular to the growth rings.  When Oak is cut this way, the radial grain, known as "medullary rays" is exposed to give the wood the squiggly flecks seen on the top—and even more so on the bottom—of this platter.

This platter is finished with beeswax, making it suitable for use with food, but be carful with foods (like red wine) which can stain the wood.
